Biography

Jason Slota was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. He started taking lessons at age 6 and learned the majority of his classical percussion and 4-mallet technique from Rebecca Kite. He continued his classical studies through high school and into college where he attended The University of Minnesota on scholarship. His focus then turned to drum set, which lead him to Indiana University. There he earned Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies degree under the tutelage of Kenny Aronoff and David Baker.

Upon graduation from college, Jason moved to the San Francisco bay area to start his career. Since moving to the bay, Jason has become a sought after drummer and percussionist because of his versatility and range of musicianship. He has toured extensively in The United States as well as Europe, Africa, and Asia, performing on stage with the likes of Femi KutiThe Mountain GoatsPop-Up Magazine, The Magik*Magik OrchestraThe Japonize ElephantsRadiolab, and Beach Blanket Babylon.

Currently Jason performs with Thao and The Get Down Stay DownJohn Vanderslice, and many others. He is the first call drummer for famed San Francisco studio, Tiny Telephone. A partial discography of his recorded work can be found here.
